Data Explorer

Every credential, every door event, every meter reading is a record of how a building works. One door event, followed from the front entrance to the cloud, is copied six times. Since September 2025 the EU Data Act has made that data the building owner’s to take and to move.

Where it goes

It starts at the reader on the front door. The controller logs it, the server in the comms room stores it, and the cloud keeps a replica and a backup. From there it can feed an AI model, or go to anyone the owner chooses. Three of its six stops are inside the building.

Who holds it

Every handoff copies the data. Built from several makers’ parts, the path leaves a copy with four companies and changes hands four times. Run by one company, it leaves a copy with two, that company and its host, and changes hands once. Both make six copies.

What the owner is owed

In the EU the owner can take that data, free and machine-readable, and send it to any third party. Cloud contracts must say how to leave, and from 12 January 2027 leaving costs nothing. Devices sold since 12 September 2026 must be built so the data can be reached.
