A Systems-Level Introduction

Before diving into specific topics like AI-augmented design, strategic research, or the ethics of automation, I want to take a step back and outline the broader framework I’ll be using to explore the future of work. This isn’t just about new tools or workflows, it’s about rethinking the foundations of how businesses operate and how people contribute in a world where generative AI is becoming the norm.

Two Interconnected Areas: Business and Employment

To make sense of what’s changing, I’m breaking the conversation into two related areas:

1. The Future of Business

What does it mean to run a business when AI can replicate much of what today’s SaaS platforms offer? In a world where flexibility and scale are widely accessible, how do companies stand out? What becomes the new competitive edge when AI can build, test, and improve faster than any team?

Topics I’ll explore include:

  • The decline of traditional software moats

  • AI as infrastructure vs. AI as a differentiator

  • The emergence of modular, “composable” businesses

  • The role of strategic design in a post-SaaS environment

2. The Future of Employment

As businesses change, so do the roles within them. What does it mean to be an employee in a highly automated, AI-integrated company? What skills matter when execution is fast and cheap, but good judgment is still rare? How do we contribute value and find purpose in a workplace where machines are active participants?

Topics I’ll explore include:

  • The shift from knowledge work to what some are calling “wisdom work”

  • Human creativity and ethics as key differentiators

  • How teams and leadership structures are evolving

  • How individuals can adapt and stay relevant

Why Start with First Principles?

Rather than starting with trends or predictions, I’m starting with systems. By looking at the underlying mechanics of business and employment, I hope to build a clearer understanding of where things are heading and how we can respond thoughtfully.
