# The right

**The event log isn't their database — it's your data.** Vendors can't rebuild lock-in by claiming database rights over what your building generated.

The sui generis database right explicitly does not apply where it would obstruct your access to device-generated data. That door is closed by name.[^eli]

# The law behind it

[Article 43](/law/eu-data-act/articles/article-43.md). Applies from 2025-09-12.

# Where it lives in the building

# The wider rulebook

None. This right stands alone.
